Homemade pizza is a delicious, but super simple meal. It reminds me how something that tastes out of this world is actually easy to make. As we gather the ingredients, and work the dough, may we offer this small and humble act to Our Lord and Mother Mary. Especially this time for Lent, let us make this super simple, but better than store-bought pizza be a pleasing act to Our Lord.
This pizza can be made with as many toppings as you like, or it can be made plain. However, you wish, may you make it with a humble heart just like Mary did. She always did things with an open heart and did things as a prayer. She shows us how we can create things with our hands, but by the grace of God.
This pizza is the BEST pizza you will ever taste! Made with all-purpose flour or bread flour, results are seriously incredible! I am so excited for you to try this one!
What you'll love about this recipe:
-Instant yeast makes our pizza fast! If you want to use active dry yeast, you can.
-All-purpose flour OR bread flour! Perfect for when you don't have any special flour on hand! (And really, I suggest you use all-purpose flour! 😋)
-Flavor your pizza! Pizza dough is a little bland, so I like to flavor things up! And seriously the results are incredible!
What you will need for this recipe:
Flour- I have made this pizza dough with all-purpose flour and bread flour. I really don't see any difference, maybe that the crust will be slightly crisp, but really, they're almost the same! SO, I do recommend using all-purpose flour. Especially if you don't have it, it works just fine! But really just use whichever you have on hand. 😉
Instant Yeast- I love using instant yeast wherever I can because it makes your recipes faster ☺️ and there's not a lot of kneading or rising. BUT, if all you have is active dry yeast, you can use it, just make sure to do the right steps!
Flavorings- So, we all really know that pizza dough is bland, so I like to use a pinch of garlic powder and dry basils. It may not look a lot, but it really makes this pizza delicious! (And meanwhile I'm writing this, I am already hungry!) But you can skip these if you want. (Which I obviously don't recommend, but you can!)
Toppings- This is where all your favorite toppings come in! I like to use pepperoni, or sometimes even my family requests with ham and mushrooms. (You really should try it, it is DELICIOUS!) Anyway, you can use your favorite!
Use an instant read thermometer to check how warm your water is! If it's too hot, it can kill your yeast, and if it's too cold, it cannot activate your yeast!
-
Mix the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and the seasonings in a large bowl.
-
Add the olive oil and warm water, then stir until everything is well combined.
-
Add more flour a little at a time until the dough comes together and pulls away from the bowl. It should be soft, slightly sticky, and easy to handle.
-
Brush a clean bowl with olive oil. Shape your dough into a ball, place it inside, and roll it around so it’s lightly coated.
This dough rises just ONE time, and very little time too. Don't expect the dough to be ginormous like in my cinnamon rolls. Instant yeast and active dry yeast do rise very differently!
5. Cover tightly and let it rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes, or until doubled.
6. Gently deflate the dough, place it on a floured surface, and knead a few times until smooth.
7. Shape it into a 12‑inch circle using your hands or a rolling pin.
8. Move it to a parchment‑lined pizza pan and form the crust edge.
This is the pizza pan I use, but what you want to use is the correct size!
9. Brush the whole surface with olive oil and poke the center with a fork to prevent bubbling.
10. Add your toppings and bake at 425°F (215°C) for 13–15 minutes, until golden.
I am really excited for you to try this one and if you do, please tell me! (And if you want to see more savory recipes, please tell me too!)
