When you don't have cream cheese on hand and you already made your cinnamon rolls, I got you covered with this simple, delicious cinnamon roll icing!
Cinnamon rolls should be covered with a lovely cream cheese frosting, but there's that time where you open your fridge and you realize you don't have cream cheese. You could run to the store, but sometimes there's no need to because I have this super simple, cinnamon roll icing that's not to sweet, but it's perfect for cinnamon rolls!
What you're going to need for this recipe:
-Milk or Heavy Cream. Heavy cream gives us a nicer, thicker and richer icing. But I don't keep heavy cream at my fridge, so I use milk. Whole milk, but you can use any milk you have.
-Butter. Melted butter, it can unsalted or salted. It'll give our frosting a glossy look.
-Sugar, use powdered sugar for this recipe. Make sure to measure your sugar properly, because if you use too much sugar, it may end up really thick.
-Vanilla, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract works perfectly here.
Steps:
1. Melt the Butter
2. Whisk in the Powdered Sugar
3. Add the Vanilla
4. Adjust with Cream or Milk
5. Spread on Warm Rolls
As you whisk this icing together, let it be a small reminder of Our Lady’s quiet tenderness. Just as the cream softens the sugar and butter into something smooth and sweet, Mary’s presence softens the rough edges of our day. In the warmth of the kitchen and the simple act of preparing something good, we can offer a quiet prayer and invite her gentle peace into our homes.
May these cinnamon rolls bring sweetness to your table and peace to your home, and may Our Lady’s gentle heart bless all who share them.
